Tìm hiểu cây hương thờ ngoài trời là gì?
Cây hương ngoài trời còn được gọi với nhiều cái tên khác như bàn thờ thiên, cây hương thờ thần linh,… Đây là một vật phẩm thờ cúng quen thuộc và được lưu truyền từ ngàn đời nay.
Trước đây, cây hương thờ ngoài trời chỉ được xây dựng đơn giản từ gạch, sau đó trát xi măng. Nhưng giờ đây đã được chế tác kỳ công hơn bằng đá xanh tự nhiên, chạm khắc hoa văn rồng, phượng tinh tế. Hầu hết các cây hương ngoài trời đều được thiết kế dạng cột trụ cao. Chiều cao của cột trụ khoảng 107cm hoặc 127cm tùy thuộc vào thiết kế tổng thể.
Phía trên đầu cột trụ được thiết kế rộng, tạo thành mặt bàn thờ hình vuông. Hai bên và phía sau cây hương thờ đều có thành. Trên mặt bàn thờ thường đặt một số đồ lễ thờ cúng phổ biến như: bát hương, bình hoa, đĩa trái cây, trà nước hoặc rượu trắng.
Hình dạng của cây hương thờ ngoài trời
Hiện nay có 2 kiểu thiết kế cây hương ngoài trời phổ biến là có mái che và không mái che. Cụ thể là:

Phần trên của cây hương thờ ngoài trời có mái che được thiết kế, chạm khắc với hình dáng như một nhà thờ, miếu thu nhỏ. Phía trên cùng là phần mái được chế tác theo kiểu thu hồi bít đốc (hồi văn). Phần mái này có thể thiết kế theo kiểu một mái hoặc hai mái đao tùy vào mục đích thờ phụng của mỗi gia chủ. Hai mặt bên của bàn thờ thiên được chạm khắc đôi rồng, phượng hoặc hoa văn cây mai, cây tùng.
Do đó, thêm phần mái và vách nên kích thước bàn thờ thiên đá có mái che sẽ rộng hơn.
– Kích thước phổ biến của mặt vuông thường là: 81x81cm, 89x89cm, 91x91cm hoặc 107x107cm.
– Chiều cao phổ biến là: 107cm, 117cm hoặc 127cm.
Cây hương đá không có mái che
Cây hương thờ ngoài trời không mái che được xây dựng với cấu trúc khá đơn giản. Phần bài vị được gắn ở phía sau cây hương thờ. Hai bên là hai vách đá được chạm khắc họa tiết tinh xảo gắn trên một trụ đá vuông để trưng bày vật phẩm thờ cúng. Dưới chân là một cột trụ đá cũng được chạm khắc tinh tế.
Kích thước của cây hương đá không mái là:
– Phần mặt bàn:
- Hình vuông có kích thước: 60x60cm hoặc 68x68cm.
- Hình chữ nhật có kích thước: 60x68cm.
– Phần chân cột đá tảng có kích thước chiều cao khoảng: 107cm, 115cm hoặc 127cm.

Cây hương ngoài trời thờ ai?
Cây hương thờ ngoài trời bằng đá hay còn gọi là bàn thờ thiên – “Thiên” trong tiếng Hán mang nghĩa là “Trời”. Theo quan niệm từ ngàn đời, Trời luôn giữ vị trí quan trọng nhất trong mọi tín ngưỡng thờ cúng, xếp theo thứ tự mà dân gian thường cúng bái đó là: “Trời – Phật – Thánh – Thần”. Do vậy, việc lập bàn thờ thiên có ý nghĩa rất quan trọng.
Thờ trời đất
Như quan niệm trên, cây hương thờ ngoài trời được lập nên trước tiên là để thờ trời đất. Hình tượng cột trụ thông thiên với ước nguyện cầu may mắn, an khang cho mọi nhà, mưa thuận gió hòa.
Thờ Mẫu Cửu
Với những người theo đạo Mẫu, việc lập cây hương thờ ngoài trời là điều vô cùng quan trọng. Người ta thường hay gọi là thờ Mẫu Cửu Trùng Thiên, Mẫu Cửu Trùng hoặc Mẫu Bán Thiên.
Thờ Thổ Công, Thổ Địa
Tập tục thờ thần, Thổ Công, Thổ Địa cũng rất phổ biến trong dân gian. Theo đó, Thổ Công là vị thần cai quản, trông coi nhà cửa. Còn Thổ Địa là vị thần cai quản việc bếp núc. Những vị thần này đều giúp gia chủ có thể an tâm hơn trong đời sống thường ngày, mọi việc suôn sẻ, may mắn.

Thờ Thành hoàng làng
Tục thờ Thành hoàng làng cũng phổ biến ở nhiều nơi. Theo đó, dân gian thờ cúng những người có công khai phá làng nhằm tỏ lòng biết ơn, nguyện cầu điều tốt đẹp đến với dân làng.
Thờ tiền chủ
Dân gian quan niệm rằng, bàn thờ thiên còn là nơi thờ tiền chủ, tức là người chủ đầu tiên của ngôi nhà. Bởi họ cho rằng, mặc dù người tiền chủ ngôi nhà không còn nữa nhưng vong linh của họ vẫn tồn tại trong nhà. Việc lập bàn thờ thiên trước nhà chính là để thờ cúng gia tiên, cầu mong sự an lành, mọi điều yên ổn và may mắn cho gia đình.
Như vậy, với những lý giải trên có thể đúc kết lại rằng, việc lập cây hương thờ ngoài trời là để thờ trời đất, các vị thần linh nói chung và tiền chủ của ngôi nhà.

Ý nghĩa tâm linh của cây hương ngoài trời
Theo quan niệm tâm linh và ý nghĩa triết học, cây hương đá thờ ngoài trời là sự kết nối giữa trời – đất hay cõi âm – dương. Cao hơn nữa, một ý nghĩa rất nhân văn về truyền thống của dân tộc Việt đó là cầu mong mưa thuận gió hòa, những điều tốt lành đến với đời sống con người.
Ngoài ra, từ xa xưa đến nay, ông cha ta vẫn luôn tin rằng, cây hương thờ ngoài trời có thể giúp con người truyền tải những thông điệp thiêng liêng đến người cõi âm và thế giới thần linh, ma quỷ.
Gia chủ lập bàn thờ thiên nhằm mong cầu sự an lạc, may mắn
Bên cạnh đó, việc đặt cây hương đá thờ ngoài trời mà không phải trong nhà còn mang một ý nghĩa là “thông thiên”, cầu mong điều cát lành. Nếu đặt trong nhà thì việc thờ cúng sẽ bị vướng mái, không thể thông với trời. Do đó, đặt cây hương thờ ở ngoài trời để thuận tiện cho việc cầu khấn, ngửa mặt lên trời khấn vái, mong sự “chứng giám” của các Ngài.
